Every morning, my boyfriend and I bring greek yoghurt with cream, dried fruits and nuts to work for breakfast. It's delicious, but we've had it everyday for months now and I've been looking for alternatives in case I get sick and tired of my yoghurt mix.

I saw that they were selling Chia Cups at IGA. At $5 a pop, I could easily make one myself! And it's so easy!!! It is so naturally sweet that you could even have it as a dessert.

Serves 2

Ingredients:
2 medium sized banana, chopped
4 tbsp coconut cream
2 tbsp chia seeds

Place the banana and coconut cream in a bowl and blend it with a stick blender.

Once it is smooth, mix in the chia seeds

Refrigerate for the next morning or serve immediately!

So I bought this nifty gadget a couple weeks ago and made this delicious pasta with it. I decided to venture out and try a creamy sauce and ended up with this beautiful bright and delicious dish! My boyfriend said the green and orange could put some people off... I think it's beautiful. How often do you see such bright vibrant colours in one dish?

Ingredients:
2 medium sweet potato
butter
2 avocados
1 can coconut cream
200g spinach (or your desired amount)
1 1/2 cup bacon, cubed (optional)
2 cups mushroom, sliced (optional)
salt
pepper

Spiralise the sweet potato with the Chef Avenue 3 in 1 slicer. Stir fry it on medium heat in butter until cooked and place the noodles in a bowl.

In the same frying pan, melt some butter and fry up the bacon until cooked. Then add the mushrooms and cook until mushrooms are golden brown. Set aside.

In a saucepan, blend the avocados and coconut cream until creamy. If your avocado is a bit raw like mine, cook it on the stove until it softens then blend it with a stick blender.

Once the avocado mix is creamy, add the spinach a handful at a time and cook until the spinach is slightly reduced and blend it. Keep adding and blending until you have reached the desired amount of spinach you want to add.

Add the bacon, bacon fat and mushroom into the avocado spinach mix and salt and pepper to taste.

Serve the sauce with sweet potato noodles.

I bought the Chef Avenue 3 in 1 Slicer over the weekend from CNR and was super excited to use it this week because I can finally make my boyfriend spaghetti bolognaise! I knew that being gluten intolerant, spagbol was something he hadn't had in years, so I decided to make him this delicious surprise. I don't love spagbol that much, but I LOVED THIS! HE loved this, which really says a lot. His only complaint was that the zoodles were too long... yes... I have a newborn toothless child at home. But that can easily be fixed by cutting the noodles up.

Since we usually cook a lot to last us several meals over the week, this recipe serves at least 6. But you can easily adjust the ingredients... or just cook a big pot and bring it for lunch the next day!

Ingredients:
2 onions, diced
5 garlic cloves, minced
1.5kg beef mince
1 cup water
2 carrots, cubed
5 tomatoes, chopped
2 cups mushroom, chopped
2 tbsp oregano
2 tbsp basil
2 tbsp chives
2 tbsp thyme
5 tbsp tomato paste/5 tbsp tomato sauce, optional
grated cheese, optional
salt
pepper
4 zucchini, julienne

Melt butter on medium heat in a pot. Add the onion and garlic and fry until cooked.

Add the beef mince and a cup of water and heat until mince is browned.

Add the carrots, tomatoes and mushrooms and let it simmer.

Add the herbs, salt and pepper and simmer for about 30-45 minutes.

In the meantime, place the zucchini noodles on a paper towel in a bowl and add salt. This is to draw the water out of the zucchini. Dab as much water as you can with a fresh paper towel.

On a frying pan, heat the zoodles up for a couple minutes and plate it.

Add the tomato paste/sauce in the mince mix and simmer for a couple minutes.

Serve the zoodles with the sauce and a handful of grated cheese.

I've always wondered how people made zoodles. It always seemed like a lot of work. Then I found this machine. I've read about it on Paleo facebook groups which said that they were sold at farmer's markets. I never got around to going to that particular farmer's market. But then we went to CNR Kitchen in Northbridge...

My friend's looking for a paleo café to sell her paleo desserts, so we've been scouting around together. Solomon's in Highgate was our first destination. Then CNR over the weekend. The minute I saw that they were selling these at CNR, I knew I had to get them. At $35 for one, I knew this is one of the machines I would get a lot out of.

Tried it last night... made spaghetti bolognaise, and it is currently my favourite gadget I have in the kitchen. It's so simple, so compact, so neat. Now I can make all the noodles in the world out of whatever I can get my hands on!

I have mentioned previously that my lifestyle has changed dramatically recently.

I have stopped

using shampoo and conditioner

using store-bought make up remover

using store-bought face cream

eating chocolate

I have started

using bi-carb soda and apple cider vinegar in my hair

using jojoba oil as make-up remover

using coconut oil as night cream and my own diy face cream in the day

brewing my own and drinking kombucha

oil pulling with coconut oil

making sure I get 8-9 hours of sleep every night

gardening, growing my own vegetables for the past year

raising my own chickens for eggs

But my most recent, and biggest change yet, is crossfit.

Almost four months ago, I told my boyfriend that I wanted to try crossfit. He thought about it and said I should workout in our backyard for a couple of months before I go for the free trial that most places offer. I had already been doing 200 air squats every other day for over a year. But other than that I haven't done much exercise. I was a bit annoyed with him at first... Crossfit is meant for anyone of any level of fitness. I did what I was told anyway.

We have some equipment in our backyard. Some barbells, weights, a couple make shift kettlebells, etc. For two months, I did a short circuit that he wrote for me, three times a week. The workout was short - took me maybe 20 minutes to do it. And it was effective. I could feel myself getting stronger.

Week 1:
3 rounds of
8 tricep dips
8 ring rows
8 squats (with 10kg weights)
8 shoulder press (10kg)
8 kettlebell swings (15kg)
8 incline pushups

Not going to lie. Shoulder press was hard the hardest the first time he showed me. I have done everything else before, but not shoulder press, and my arms are very weak. But as the week progressed, I found that 8 shoulder presses were nothing and they were getting so easy. So then he decided to up my reps to 10 each by week 2.

Week 3, I was doing 4 rounds of 8 reps and week 4 saw me doing 4 rounds of 10 reps. I could feel myself getting stronger and stronger. From only a month ago, I could barely do 8 shoulder presses to now, I could do 4 rounds of 10! That feeling was addictive. In week 5, he decided to increase my 10kg weights to 15kg, and my workout went back to 3 rounds of 8.

Week 5:
3 rounds of
8 tricep dips
8 ring rows
8 squats (15kg)
8 shoulder press (15kg)
8 kettlebell swings (10kg)
8 incline pushups

Week 6, I was doing 3 rounds of 10. Week 7, 4 rounds of 8. And week 8, 4 rounds of 10.

Finally, 2 months have come and gone and I had worked out religiously 3 times a week - I was finally allowed to trial crossfit. Southern Crossfit offers free trial on Saturday mornings 9am and 10am. I signed up and went to the 9am trial. Man, it was hard. Not going to lie. I am glad my boyfriend made me do some workout in the backyard to prepare me for it. I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much otherwise. Or would I?

Either way, that workout killed me. I was sore for almost a week after that. But I loved it! I used to be a competitive swimmer up until I finished high school. I loved swimming. I haven't really found a sport I enjoyed as much since. But crossfit, crossfit is something. It's so challenging, so hard. But when you're done, it feels invigorating.

I signed up for the mandatory 2 week foundation class, and 2 weeks later, I was officially doing my first WOD. It has been more than 4 weeks since my first official crossfit class. I am still loving it. I look forward to waking up at 5:20am in winter before the sun comes up, to workout, and I'm not even a gym junkie. I love that the workouts are so short. Classes are an hour long, but the workouts themselves are usually between 8 to 20 minutes depending on the WOD. At least the ones I have done so far are. The workouts are brutal, but knowing that it only lasts for that long makes it much easier to bear. The best part is knowing you are getting better with every workout! Actually, no, the best part is feeling like all your fat is melting whilst you're doing the workout because it is that brutal!

I love doing weights. So good to see the numbers go up quickly, knowing that you are getting stronger. That, and I hate cardio. All the rowing and running kills me.

I hope I am on my way to achieving a better looking body for summer... and we will be attending a wedding in India in February. That's another five and a half months away. I will definitely check in before then about my results!

There are lots of hate on crossfit. I think it's important that you look for a crossfit box that has good trainers. They should not only know what they are talking about, but they also understand how to scale your workout to suit your level, and make sure to teach you and help you maintain good form. Most importantly though, try it out. Have a look at what the box and the trainers are like. See it for yourself. You could hate it... or you could end up loving it like me.

I have been doing single brews for a while before I found the perfect drink dispenser for continuous brew. Single brews give you a scoby each time but you have to measure out the starter tea, remove a scoby, rinse the jar, let it ferment for a week a week and a half etc. Continuous brew is more straight forward. All you have to do is take out about 25% of the kombucha, boil the tea, let it cool and top it back up in the dispenser. You don't even have to wash it out for 6 months to a year!

I had been looking for a drink dispenser for a while. You can't just use any drink dispenser because it's not safe for the scoby. You need a glass dispenser or one that's made to keep the scoby safe. I finally found a glass dispenser from Target - the Lisa T range. It was only $40, completely within my budget and I'm quite happy with it.

Brewing method is simple.

What you need:

1 glass jar

1 cloth

1 rubber band

1 scoby

starter tea

white sugar

water

Instructions:

1. Boil water and turn off the heat.

2. Add sugar and stir until it dissolves.

3. Add teabags, cover and leave until the tea cools completely.

4. Discard the teabags.

5. Wash the dispenser with water or white vinegar.

6. Add cooled tea to the dispenser.

7. Add kombucha starter tea and the scoby to the dispenser.

8. Cover the dispenser with the linen cloth and secure with a rubber band.

9. Leave the dispenser in a cool, dark, dry place, away from sunlight, fruits and other fermenting foods.

10. Taste test after 10-14 days depending on the weather and the amount of tea you have boiled. It should smell like apple cider vinegar and taste tart and not sweet.

11. Decant about 2L into a flip top glass bottle and allow it to further ferment for another couple of days before refrigerating.

12. During this time you can infuse it with herbs and fruits of your choice to flavour your kombucha.

13. Boil water (the same amount should be the same as what you have decanted). Turn off heat, add sugar and stir until it dissolves. Add teabags, cover and leave until the tea cools completely. Top up the drink dispenser.

14. Once you've got the dispenser going, you can decant and top up every couple of days.

Summer's coming... you know what that means for me... More ice cream making before my freezer dies for the next few months!

I love creamy ice cream. If you are lacto paleo like us, then this is the recipe for you. You can have it without the hazelnut, but it's so good with it! I've made this recipe with just plain chocolate, but I didn't blog about it because I forgot to take a picture of it. Here it is now!

What you need
2 cups heavy cream
3 tbsp cacao powder
160g dark chocolate, chopped
1 cup milk
1 1/2 tsp stevia, optional (if you want dark chocolate ice cream, leave it, if not, add more)
pinch of salt
5 large egg yolks
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup hazelnut, roasted and chopped/crushed

What to do

Mix 1 cup of cream with cacao powder in a saucepan on medium heat. Whisk it until the cacao has blended. Keep whisking and bring the mix to boil and simmer for 30 seconds on low.

Remove from heat and stir in the chocolate until well blended.

Stir in the remaining 1 cup of cream, pour it into a bowl and set aside.

Warm the milk, stevia and salt in the same saucepan on medium heat. Whisk the egg yolks in a bowl and slowly pour the milk into it, whisking continuously.

Transfer the mix back into the saucepan and stir it over medium heat until it thickens. Stir it into the chocolate mix. Add in the vanilla.

Set the mixture aside and when it cools, pour it in the ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Once the mixture has thickened, add in the hazelnut.

Hint: Before you serve, let it sit in room temperature until it softens a bit.

I have read up a few reviews of other people ditching shampoo and conditioner and replacing them with bi-carb soda and apple cider vinegar. There were good and bad reviews, and I decided to give it a go for a month anyway to see how I go. If my hair gets healthier, I'll stick with it, if it gets worse, I'll ditch it.

About me and my hair
I am Asian, so I have straight Asian hair. My hair is pretty long - halfway down my back and bleached once a year. I used to wash my hair everyday because I would feel so dirty if I only wash my body and not my hair. Then my boyfriend somehow convinced me to try and wash my hair every other day. I did that, and finally got used to it. Then I decided to try this new routine.

My hair is not very damaged, but it's not super lush either. It's average, and it could look better. Especially with hair this long, extra care has to be taken to keep split ends at bay. I've tried olive oil mask and egg mask. Tip: if you use an egg mask, don't wash it off with hot water, even if it's winter... you'll end up with cooked egg white in your hair!

History of shampoo and conditioner use
I used to use herbal essence, and then recently started using Sukin. It's organic, and not too expensive. $20 each for a big bottle shampoo and conditioner. When I said recent, I meant recent. I haven't even finished my first bottles of Sukin before I decided to try this out.

The test
I decided to go for it and not tell anyone, apart from the boyfriend, to see if anyone would notice. If they do, then it's good news! I should probably have taken before and after photos, but I'm not very good at planning... kind of just do things on a whim, so I haven't taken any before photos. I could probably take some after photos.

Anyway, what I decided to do was only wash it on the mornings after my workout (I do crossfit now), but that's another post. I usually work out Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays before work.

Experience
It does take a bit of getting used to. With bi-carb soda, you don't get the foam, so it's a bit weird. The ACV on the other hand, makes it really smooth. It feels so nice running my hand through my hair with ACV in it.

The result
It has probably been almost a month since I started this routine. I may be biased when I say it worked really well, which is why I only posted this when people started commenting on my hair. So far only three people (not including my boyfriend) have commented on it. But hey, three is pretty good results to me... good enough to stick with it. I think my hair has also gotten shinier and smoother. With only $5 for a box of bi-carb soda and a bottle of ACV, that would last you a while.

Only downfall
The only problem with this routine is that you have to keep 'making' your shampoo and conditioner. But it only really takes 5 minutes to mix your own. So at this price and these results, why not give it a go? You probably already have these ingredients in your pantry anyway.

You will need
2 old shampoo bottles
2 tbsp bi-carb soda
2-3 drops of tea tree oil (optional)
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
2-3 drops of lavender oil (optional)

What I did
Spoon the bi-carb soda into one of the shampoo bottles (use a funnel to help you). Add the peppermint oil and fill the bottle up with water. Shake it, and there's your shampoo.

Place the apple cider vinegar in the other shampoo bottle. Add the lavender oil and fill the bottle up with water. Shake it, and there's your conditioner.

I use half a bottle at a time. My bottles are not big. About 375ml each. You be the judge of how much you use.

The essential oils are optional. I use them because they were just sitting around chilling. You don't have to worry about the smell of ACV either. The first couple times I tried it without essential oils, my hair washed out and didn't smell at all. But with essential oil, your hair comes out smelling really nice. If you're worried about the smell of vinegar, the essential oil will also help cover that up.

Let me know how you go with this routine and whether or not it worked well for you!

This is a chinese dish called San Choi Bao. It's like tacos but using lettuce cups instead of taco shells. 'San Choi' means lettuce and 'Bao' means bun. It's the only chinese words my boyfriend knows. He calls it 'San Joy Bao' not because he's clever, though it does bring him joy, but because he can't pronounce it properly.

1 iceberg lettuce (we usually just get the cheapest lettuce)

1 clove garlic, chopped

I tried lamb saagwala for the first time at an indian restaurant a couple months ago... best decision I have ever made. It's so good and I can't get enough of it, I decided I should try and make my own. Lamb Saagwala is basically a creamy spinach sauce with lamb. Since the boyfriend suggested we have more vegetables in our diet, adding a whole bag of spinach in our food seemed like a simple and easy way to incorporate that. Green is a yucky colour, but lately I have been really into adding random colours to our dishes, especially after I found out there are more varieties of every fruit and vegetable than there are offered at the supermarkets. There are yellow tomatoes, white eggplants, yellow zucchinis etc. Since they can't easily be obtained, I've decided to grow more different kinds of vegetables. We'll see how that goes!

Ingredients:

butter/coconut oil

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

1 bay leaf

2-3 cardamom pods

1 tsp cumin powder

1 onion, sliced

1/2 tsp turmeric

1/2 tsp ground ginger

1/2 tsp ground garlic

1 tomato, chopped

1 cinnamon stick

1 tsp coriander powder

1/4 tsp garam masala

1/2 cup water

boneless lamb, cubed

1 bag spinach

1/4 cup coconut cream

salt

pepper

Heat butter/coconut oil in saucepan. Add cayenne pepper, bay leaf, cardamom pods and cumin.

Add onions and sauté until translucent. Add turmeric, ginger and garlic.

Add tomato, stir and add the rest of the spices. Stir and add 1/2 cup water.

Add the lamb and stir.

Cook on medium heat for an hour with the lid on.

Place the lamb in a bowl and add the spinach to the sauce. When the spinach is partly cooked, blend it with a stick blender and place it back on the stove for another five minutes. Add the coconut cream, flavour with salt and pepper and mix the lamb back in the sauce.

This is probably one of my favourite flavours of kombucha... maybe because it's one of the most successful one I've managed to brew so far. Haha.

Once you have brewed your kombucha and bottled it up, dice about 3 large strawberries and put in 1 tablespoon of rosemary leaves (optional) in the kombucha and let it further ferment for another day or two in a cool dark place. If you fill the bottle up leaving only 1/2 inch from the cap, it will turn very fizzy. It would be a delicious drink in summer. Very refreshing!

We can't have ice cream in summer because our freezer dies in summer. Then in winter, when it's not so hot, it works again. We have been putting off replacer our fridge/freezer because well, by the time we get around to it, it's winter again. This has been happening for the last 2 summers. Either way, winter has become to perfect time for us to make our own ice cream!

Once the ice cream begins to thicken, add the macadamia nuts.

I have been brewing kombucha for about four months now. I have upgraded from brewing single brews to continuous brewing. You can buy the Lisa T's glass drink dispenser from Target for $40. It is so handy!

It is said there are many health benefits to drinking kombucha and you can pretty much replace apple cider vinegar with it. I haven't really noticed the benefits of kombucha because my lifestyle has drastically changed these past few months. But I definitely love drinking it. I have gone on to flavour my own kombucha as well. My boyfriend loves it. I love it. It is so refreshing to drink. It is like having a soft drink, but with all the health benefits and none of the sugary death.

You can adjust the taste of your kombucha by adjusting the length of time you brew your kombucha. The longer the brew, the more vinegary and less sweet it is. I prefer mine to be less sweet so I brew mine for a little bit. Once you bottle it up, leaving only 1/4 inch gap and let it further ferment for another day or two, it will become fizzy as well. So delicious!

I have even been using kombucha as toner. I let it brew a bit longer than usual so it's a bit more vinegary. Then I dab my cotton pad with it and use it on my face. So much gunk comes off my face. I can't get enough of this stuff.

Brewing kombucha is simple enough.

Instructions:

1. Boil water and turn off the heat.

2. Add sugar and stir until it dissolves.

3. Add teabags, cover and leave until the tea cools completely.

4. Discard the teabags.

5. Wash the jar with water or white vinegar.

6. Add cooled tea to the jar.

7. Add kombucha starter tea and the scoby to the jar.

8. Cover the jar with the linen cloth and secure with a rubber band.

9. Leave the jar in a cool, dark, dry place, away from sunlight, fruits and other fermenting foods.

10. Taste test after 5 to 14 days depending on the weather. It should smell like apple cider vinegar and taste tart and not sweet.

11. Decant into a flip top glass bottle and allow it to further ferment for another couple of days before refrigerating.

You can purchase a kombucha scoby off me for $5 each. Included is a scoby, 100ml starter tea (which is enough for you to make 1L on your first brew), and written instructions. I prefer pick up (I live in Perth), but shipping can be arranged and will be at your expense.

I also sell plain kombucha at $5 per litre and flavoured kombucha at $6 per litre (not including the bottle). I can include flip top glass bottles for an additional $5 each. Kombucha is strictly pick up only.

After having my chooks for the past 7-8 months, one of them has finally decided to start laying eggs! I look forward to waking up every morning to see if there are any eggs waiting for me in the coop. This egg is from my biggest chicken, Pteri / Pterodactyl the Australorpe. It's a surprisingly small egg coming from a big chicken. But it's still an egg from my backyard and I love it!

It has been a three months since I posted anything. The weather has been too hot for me to garden or cook anything new. My movement around the house has been minimal.

Since it's been much cooler this week, today, I made this delicious dish I haven't made in over 2 years. In Canberra, I used to go to korean restaurants a lot and they would give you kimchi as a side dish. I don't like sour, so I don't really like the taste of it. But I would bring the little box of kimchi home and cook my own kimchi fried rice the next day! Because it's mixed with everything else, it doesn't taste as sour.

I've been wanting to cook this for the mister for a while now, but never got the chance to. Then last week, my bestfriend coincidentally cooked this dish and sent me a picture of it. It had an egg and some seaweed on it. I've never cooked mine with egg before but the presentation looked so good I decided to follow it!

The egg was the cherry on the icing. It made the whole dish taste so good! My boyfriend loved it and we agreed it's one of the best dishes I have made in a while. It's not totally paleo because of the rice, but you can always substitute it with cauliflower rice. I have failed making cauliflower rice in the past and I didn't want to ruin this dish so I only cooked a small amount and put a lot of meat in it.

Ingredients:

3 chicken breasts, cubed

2 cups mushroom

450g kimchi

1 cup rice

1/2 cup banana prawns, peeled and halved

1/2 cup mussels

1 egg

salt and pepper

In a frying pan, cook the chicken breasts until browned. Add in the mushrooms and let it simmer until most of the liquid is gone.

Add the kimchi and stir until mixed. Add the rice.

When everything is mixed together, mix in the prawns and mussels.

Fry an egg in a separate frying pan and have it with your kimchi fried rice!

Note: the rice is better if cooked the night before and refridgerated

With all the sugar it requires, this really isn't paleo. But it is gluten-free and it is delicious! I don't think you can ever make macaron without sugar because it is the sugar that gives it its texture. So good. I love it. My boyfriend and I finished it over the weekend :( I crave for it every week but I can't make it every week or we will become so fat!

Ingredients:

Pistachio Mixture

2/3 cup pistachio nuts

1 cup icing sugar

1 egg white

small pinch of salt

Meringue

1 egg white

1 cup icing sugar

25g water

green food colouring (optional. I didn't use any)

Bake pistachios in a preheated oven at 150C for 3 minutes.

Grind warm pistachios with icing sugar in food processor

Mix pistachio mix with 1 egg white and salt. Set aside.

Beat egg white until medium peaks.

Cook sugar and water until it starts bubbling or 118C, pour it into egg whites with beaters running on low speed.

Beat meringue until stiff and glossy on high speed

Stir 1/3 of meringue into pistachio mix.

Pour pistachio mix into meringue and fold until batter is able to fall without trace after a count to 10.

Place batter into a piping bag. Pipe dollops of batter onto a lined baking tray.

Bake at 150C for 14 minutes or until golden.

Remove from tray with paper and let it rest on a rack to cool down.

Peel macarons off and pair them with similar sizes. Keep air tight until time to fill.

Pipe a blob of filling onto one macaron and top with another piece.

Serve immediately or keep chilled.

Note: I mixed cream cheese, butter and icing sugar for the filling.

It is pretty expensive to get pizzas with gluten-free bases at the restaurants. It never seemed an exorbitant amount when we paid for these pizzas until I decided to surprise my boyfriend and make our own gluten-free base... our paleo base pizza.

I think compared to normal base, it is much easier and quicker to make the base since you don't have to let the dough sit at all and I love that we make our own pizza now because we can put whatever we want on it. DELICIOUS! The best part about this is that it costs next to nothing! The base ingredients cost about $6 and I can make 3 bases out of it and we get a meal out of each pizza! Depending on what you put on the pizzas, it costs about $5 for a pizza between two people! Is this a good deal or what??

On our pizza, we put an egg, bacon, mushrooms, mussels, sausages and lots and lots and lots of cheese.

Ingredients:

2/3 cup linseed meal

1 cup warm water

2 tbsp. butter

7 tbsp cornflour

2 tsp baking soda

3 cups almond meal

pinch of salt

Preheat the oven to 180C.

In a bowl, mix the linseed meal, warm water and butter until the butter is melted and the mixture thickens.

In a big bowl, combine the remaining dry ingredients, then stir in the linseed mix until everything well combined.

Split the dough into thirds and roll them out between two sheets of baking paper. You might want to either get someone else to stretch out the baking paper while you roll it out or keep flipping it to make sure that the baking paper does not get caught in the crease of the dough on the underside.

Once rolled out to desire thickness, carefully peel the top baking paper and place the base in the oven for 22-24 minutes or until the edges are golden.

Once cooked, remove the crust from the oven and place your desired ingredients and bake a further 15 minutes at 200C!

I love avocados. Unfortunately they can be quite pricey when they are not in season. I don't want to pay $2 for one when I can pay $2 for 4! Then I found out that you can grow avocado trees. I thought why not since I'm growing everything else anyway. I just took the pit from my avocado and put 4 toothpicks to prop it up on the glass and fill the glass with water. Note that the round end sits in the water and the pointy end faces up.

It took weeks and weeks for it to grow to this stage. It probably took about 2-3 months. I have 2 pits growing and this one grew faster because the root was already there when I pitted my avocado. My other pit was still... well a full pit. Both were sitting in water around the same time and my other one only just have a root growing out. So you do have to be patient if you are growing it out of a pit. It takes weeks for the root to come out. Nothing happens for a long time and then the pit cracks! That's when it gets more exciting! If you are interested, you should try it. Avocados are delicious and healthy!

This is the first thing I made with my Russell Hobbs Multi Processor. From whole almonds to butter, it took about 3 minutes. It is smooth and beautiful. Now I get my own almond butter and don't have to spend a fortune for them!

There seems to be a general consensus that it costs more to go paleo, which is really not the case. My boyfriend and I live with four other people, and they, and all our other friends, seem to pay more than us. The photo above shows our groceries from last week. We got our fruits and veg from Subiaco Farmer's Market, and the meat and dairy from Farmer Jack's/Wholefood Jack's.

We don't normally go Subiaco every week, probably once every fortnight, so those fruits would last us two weeks. The chicken breast is also something we had in the freezer so we didn't buy them this week. We came home and asked our housemates to guess how much we spent, and one of them guessed $200! All up, in fact, only cost us $110 this week. Our shopping ranges from $70-$110 depending on what we have leftover from the previous week.

It may look a bit bland, but the food is delicious, and I do normally cook twice a week, so we have a bit of variety. Considering it costs about $5 to get a fresh juice, 10 days of juice alone would cost around $50. So this is really not that costly. Some people we know spend around $100 a week (and they eat alone), and others spend $50 per trip (for one meal). I don't cook on weekends, apart from breakfasts so we either eat out or my boyfriend would cook up some meat on the barbecue.

So there you go... going paleo is not that expensive especially if you know where to shop. I do admit we usually also only shop the sale items. So instead of planning our shopping around the menu, we plan our menu around the shopping. Not only do you have to eat smart, you have to shop smart!

Of course, having your own vege patch also helps with the cost ;)

This is my latest gadget and it is an absolute beauty! I have been after a great blender and a great food processor for a while. But the bigger brands like Omniblend, Blendtec and Vitamix are too expensive for me - they range from $700-$1200!! That is too much for a blender. Especially when you can get one at $40 from Woolies.

I was speaking to a colleague the other day... she does crossfit and on the paleo diet as well, and she recommended this multi processor. The Good Guys sell them for $129! It comes with two food processor bowls and a blender jug! Only an additional $2 shipping, I got it right away on Sunday evening and it came Tuesday morning before I even left for work!

In the past 2 years, I have bought 2 blenders and 2 food processors from Woolies generic brand because they were the cheapest I could find at around $30-$40 each. I have two of each because one broke and I had to get a replacement. That costs about $160 for the 4 machines anyway. With $129, I had 3 attachments!

There are so many parts to it I had to fiddle around with it to make sure I knew how to take things apart and put them together. Everything comes apart easily and you can wash each and every one of them! I was going to wait until the weekend to use it, but I couldn't wait yesterday (Thursday), and went to get all sorts of ingredients after work to make nutella and banana and pecan cookies. So much joy! It is a monster! I love my new purchase! I cannot believe that for a fraction of a price, I was able to get this lovely machine. It saves space as well since you only need one base for all three. I highly recommend this beautiful machine.

So since my post about cutting chocolate out, I have fallen off the wagon around July. So I went on a chocolate cut for about 7 months before I decided to have some again. Some became more than some and finally my boyfriend decided I have to quit eating chocolate for a while again because according to him, I'm addicted. So my first day of no sugar no chocolate started on 29th September 2013. It had been 5 days since I last had anything sweet - Saturday, we both decided Golden Gaytime ice cream would be my final naughty dessert before I commence weaning off my sugar addiction on Sunday.

The first few days was alright. I brought banana to work so that I would have something sweet and not go digging in the chocolate box we have at work. Then yesterday (Thursday), someone brought cake to work. First work cake I did not have. :( and then my boss offered me Tim Tams. First time someone offered me something and I had to say no. TWICE IN A DAY! There was sugar all around me so finally I decided enough was enough. I have an addiction, I need to get off sugar but I WANT sweetness.

I have recently come across Pinterest, and they have amazing paleo recipes on there. I found this crepes recipe and used it as an inspiration and made my own version! Delicious. Last night was also the last night my boyfriend would be home before he went on a car cruise over the weekend so I decided to make us a little treat for dessert before he went off. It is amazing. It's not very sweet, but sweet enough to help with sugar cravings and it is healthy!

Ingredients:

2 tbsp almond meal

3 eggs

1/2 cup coconut cream/ coconut milk

1/2 tbsp cacao powder

1/4 tsp stevia

1 tbsp vanilla extract

coconut oil

fresh fruit

cinnamon powder

cream (optional)

Beat the eggs and mix the almond meal, coconut cream, cacao powder, stevia vanilla extract, and cinnamon powder together.

In a frying pan, heat up some coconut oil on medium heat and pour in a thin layer of the mix. Swish the frying pan around slowly to help spread the mix.

Cook it for about a minute or two or until the batter starts drying up and stays in one piece and flip it with your spatula. Cook it for another minute and serve with cut fruits, cinnamon and cream.

If you don't want cream, you can make your own sauce with cacao powder and honey and drizzle it on top.

Summer is on its way even though it doesn't quite feel like it yet. In preparation, I have made these delicious fruity icy poles. Cooling in summer and healthier than store-bought ice cream! All you need is a juicer and some fruits! You could probably use coconut cream or coconut water or coconut milk to replace the juice if you don't have a juicer.

Ingredients:

apples

pears

strawberries

bananas

kiwis

Cut up the strawberries, bananas and kiwis in cubes and place them in the icy pole moulds.

Juice the apples and pears together or separately and fill the moulds up with the juice!

You can use whatever fruit you want as juice and as filling. This is what I had and this is what I made!
