Beef Fat
Last weekend we went grocery shopping and spent a whopping $200. Crazy, I know. It has been a long while since we spent that much because I try to stop my crazy boyfriend from buying things because it's cheap. Unfortunately this time it didn't work. We spent $30 on fruits and vege at a farmer's market like we usually do. And then we got to Wholefood Jack's and he got the usual meat, milk, yoghurt, etc... and 4 boxes of taco shells and 7.5kg of rump steak. Unfortunately I have forgotten to take a picture of it. It was huge. Anyway, we bought it to make biltong and steak and stuff.
So when we got down to business on Sunday, he began dissecting the huge lump of 7.5kg meat. He sliced of the huge layer of fat on the top and dumped that in our slow cooker and let it heat up overnight. And what resulted was the above picture. 100% pure beef fat. That and the two jars of coconut oil he recently bought from Coconut Essence when he got the coconut water, plus our current stock of coconut oil, I think it is safe to say we have enough oil to last us a few winters.
